Norwegian language, society and culture for International employees

In order to give new international employees the best possible start at UiA, the university is for free offering a new course in Norwegian language, society and culture in cooperation with Aftenskolen. The aim of the course is to give new international employees an introduction to the language, culture and society as well as orientation information specific to UiA.

Maximum 12 attendees. The course is primarily offered for permanently employed UiA internationals. If not fully booked at closing date we will also offer the course for temporary employees as well as for spouses.

Program

Norwegian language, society and culture for UiA employees

  • 8 lessons, 3 hours per session
  • target group: international employees who have arrived in 2017

 The course is designed to give participants insight into their new society, their colleagues, higher education and students’ expectations. The Norwegian language course will emphasize basic skills and dialog while the orientation and society and culture sessions will be a combination of lectures, information sessions and group discussions (in English). We aim to focus on Norwegian society in a comparative perspective. The society and culture lessons will be supplemented with online modules.

Course content:

  • Basic Norwegian language (beginner level) with some emphasis on higher education terminology.
  • Norwegian society and culture: the norms, values, and policies that shape Norwegian society in a comparative perspective. Some orientation to UiA, Grimstad and Kristiansand and public services.
